NEW DELHI: The Central government has indefinetely extended the deadline fixed for mandatory linking of Aadhaar card with Bank accounts. The deadline has been exteded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
With this, the stipulated date for linking mutual funds, insurance policies and other such documents too gets extended. The government issued a Gazette notifictaion for the same. It said that new timelines will be announced in the coming days. Last week, the Centre had informed the Supreme Court (SC) that it is willing to extend till March 31 the deadline fixed for mandatory linking of Aadhaar to avail various services and welfare schemes. However, there’s one Aadhaar linking deadline that will not be changing, which is linking of Aadhaar cards to mobile SIM cards. As attorney general KK Venugopal made it clear that February 6 next year would remain the deadline for linking Aadhaar for availing uninterrupted mobile services as it had been mandated by the apex court.

In February this year, the Supreme Court in Lokniti Foundation case passed an order asking for re-verification of all SIM cards with Aadhaar cards by February 6, 2018. All the mobile SIM cards that are not linked with Aadhaar by that date will be deactivated.

The deadline of linking Aadhaar with mutual funds, insurance policies, bank accounts, PAN, PPF and more such accounts is likely to be extended.
